ARE YOU AN EMOTIONAL EATER?

ARE YOU AN EMOTIONAL EATER?

Food is a natural part of life that sustains bodily functions and maintains health; however, when food is used to compensate for emotional situations, binge sessions crop up, and health risks soon follow. Regardless of your emotional state, if food is your dependable cure-all, you fall into compulsive eating, which debases the true purpose of food.

Understandably, sweet treats and junk foods are common rewards we sporadically indulge in, but when does this tendency become a problem? The first step towards changing your attitude and behavior regarding food is acknowledging how you recognize food.

Food is one of the simplest avenues of pleasure. Nonetheless, straining your body with too much food, too often, is detrimental to your overall health. Food should nourish and energize your body, so consuming large doses of food disrupts your system because your body struggles to digest such hefty intakes. Immediately after stuffing your face, you become sluggish and your system becomes irregular. Gradually, you gain weight, feel lazy, and then depression and shame set in.

If you depend on food as a means of pleasure and escape, not only are you establishing a dangerous pattern that overwhelms your body, but psychologically you become addicted to the momentary rush and relief food supplies, which causes you to ritualize your food intake, thereby solidifying your hazardous habits even further.

Regain control of your appetite by admitting you have a problem. Monitor what kinds of foods trigger cravings, and then wean them from your diet by swapping them out with healthier alternatives. Experiment with other ways to deal with your emotional influxes, like incorporating exercise into your daily routine, listening to music, or even doodling.

Without a doubt, if you don’t start somewhere, you’ll wind up nowhere, so take care of yourself and get your health in order today!
